Ali’s original plan for August was to walk the 192 mile coast to coast path across the Peak district, Yorkshire dales and moors. However, due to a career change she had a bit less time available than planned, and so switched to two separate coast to coast challenges; one walking (90 miles along Hadrian’s wall plus a bit extra to get to the coast) and one cycling (100 miles in one day from one side of Devon to the other ).
She roped in her sister Helen and future brother-in-law Duncan for some of the walk, and Duncan also joined her for the cycle, with Helen revisiting her brilliant support car duties from the London-Paris cycle.
Both trips were amazing experiences but challenging in different ways – Ali’s knee gave up on the first day of the six day walk, and having barely been near a bike in the preceding three months, 100 miles in a day on a bike with a semi-functioning knee was pretty tough…
